I downloaded some vocal samples from Splice that contain reverb but I want to get rid of it. I tried trimming the end of the vocal clips but you can still hear the reverb when the vocalist is singing. Is there anything I can do about that or am I stuck with the reverb?
You can use a de-reverb plugin to minimize the amount of reverb that’s present in your recordings. The best solution is to mitigate room tone before hitting the record button, but that’s not always possible. For example, you might be conducting an interview on location.
iZotope has its RX De-reverb plugin and Plugin Alliance has the SPL De-Verb Plus, which I’ve found to work quite well. When using these types of plugins, aim for improvement rather than perfection. They won’t entirely remove the reverb that you hear but they should help tighten things up.
